SOUTHSTOKE WALK 4 miles 1 ½ hours

Posted on 15th April, 2021

This is my very first blog, so please, any amendments let us know so we can adapt for future guests.

From our front door, turn right, then right onto Hatfield road then immediate right up Entry Hill for 1 mile.

At the intersection, cross over Bradford road and walk up Southstoke road. With Cross Keys pub on your right, crossover  Midford road and carry on up Southstoke Lane.

This leads you into the village of Southstoke, with a charming church and just down from the tiny sloped green a great community owned pub The Packhorse (with great food and fantastic views from the garden).

At this point you can return to Devonshire House or choose to carry on further.

Coming back from the pub, hug the wall to your left and walk past the Green on your right.

Follow the road to the church on your left.

Continue and follow the road to the kissing gate and you will be on a track, follow it round to the right for five minutes (300 metres) until you reach the Millenium Viewpoint which is through the cattle gate on the left. Enjoy the views over to Westbury White Horse and Alfred’s Tower at Stourhead.

Carry on following the track for ½ mile and when you see a kissing gate in front of you, take the footpath to the right, this brings you to a kissing gate and through onto Combe Hay Lane.

Go straight across and through St Gregorys College, directly opposite is Old Fosse Road, which you want to walk down. At the mini roundabout turn right onto Upper Bloomfield Road which leads into Bloomfield Road.

Follow downhill for just over a mile (20 minutes) until you reach Hatfield Road on your right, go along past the church and we are at the end of this road.
